ŠEVČÍK et al. (2020) recently published an article in the European Journal of Taxonomy. The authors describe five new species of Docosia (Diptera: Mycetophilidae), including a new species of fungus gnat from Georgia, Docosia svanetica.

In early 2020, Ximo Mengual and various co-authors published a checklist on the Syrphidae of Georgia in Zookeys. The data was mainly collected as part of the GGBC fieldwork initiatives in 2018 and they provide the first DNA barcodes for the syrphid fauna of Georgia.

BioBlitz 2019
Following up on 2018’s successful Georgian-German BioBlitz in Kintrishi (Lesser Caucasus, see ggbc.eu/kintrishi/), 2019’s BioBlitz will take place in the Stepantsminda area (Kazbegi), in the Greater Caucasus. Core dates will be July 4th until July 7th.

In July 2018, a mixed group of dozens of Georgian and German scientists and students visited the Kintrishi area to collect and identify specimens for DNA barcoding, in a so-called BioBlitz event, the first so far to take place in Georgia: more info under ggbc.eu/kintrishi/
